Chapelton Tax Office host Property Tax Fair 2019

Tax Administration Jamaica through its Chapelton Tax Office hosted a Property Tax Fair on Thursday November 7, 2019 aimed at improving Property Tax Collection in the Parish of Clarendon and its environs as well as to provide property and general tax information. The focus was on stamp duty and transfer tax, property tax as well as property owners who have lands that are abandoned or neglected.

The Property Tax fair partnered with Agencies to include:
1. National Housing Trust
2. Geoland
3. National Land Agency
4. Registrar General Department
5. Local Government/Property Tax Unit
6. HEART/NTA

Persons received one-on one assistance from these agencies and Dawn Anderson, property owner shared her thoughts on the services provided at the fair. She stated “I think the fair was a good gesture towards the community in providing information that persons need to know concerning land taxes, titles and getting housing. Although my issue was not resolved on the day, I got advice and information that directed me to the solution that I required.”

Property Owners can conveniently pay their property tax online via the Jamaica Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, using a credit card, instead of visiting a tax office. In addition to the online option, property owners are reminded that property tax
payments may be made at any tax office across the island. Persons paying by cheque may also pay using the electronic drop boxes located in select main tax offices.

For property owners who are not sure how much property tax is owed, they are being reminded of the Property Tax Query Online service. The service allows property owners to log on to TAJ’s website at and enter their valuation number, to check the status of their property tax, going back seven (7) years.
