Clarendon Persons Arrested for Failure to Pay Taxes

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) recently carried out enforcement action in Clarendon with two persons being arrested and brought before the May Pen Resident Magistrate’s Court for failing to pay outstanding Property Taxes totalling approximately $1.9M.

The tax authority’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) supported by the Major Organized Crime and Anti- Corruption Agency (MOCA) arrested the Clarendon residents for failure to comply.

Arrested on Warrants of Disobedience for Failure to Pay Property Taxes were Winston Delano Willis $532,122.54 and Charles Apru Darby $1,375,325.55. They were subsequently released and granted bail.

TAJ continues to carry out enforcement activities to ensure the protection of the revenue.Taxpayers are therefore encouraged to speak with the tax authority to make suitable arrangements, if they are faced with difficulties in honouring their tax obligations, particularly where a judgement has been handed down by the Court. Failure to comply with a Court Order will result in enforcement action by the Special Enforcement Team to seek warrants of disobedience.
