With two (2) days to go before the March 15 Income Tax deadline to file final Income Tax Returns for year of assessment 2017 and Estimated Returns for year of assessment 2018, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding Business Owners, Self-Employed persons, Partnerships, Companies and Employed Individuals with other sources of income or multiple employment, that there is still an opportunity to avoid the $5,000 monthly penalty charged for late returns.
Income Tax Filers and Tax Preparers can avoid the expected higher than normal “Tax Day” rush, by availing themselves of TAJs eServices via the Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm to file their final Income Returns. Additionally, taxpayers may visit any of several Tax Offices which have been outfitted with an e-Tax Spot, a designated area which allows taxpayers to file online with the support of tax personnel, these offices include: Cross Roads, Kingston, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, St. Ann’s Bay and Mandeville Tax Offices. The Constant Spring location provides even greater support through its eFiling centre, where up to six (6) taxpayers can file at a time with the support of TAJ staff.
For persons filing manually, there’s still time to access free assistance at any of the scheduled Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP) sessions now on islandwide. The Constant Spring Revenue Service Centre will stage a mini exposition in partnership with several corporate partners on Wednesday March 14. Here TAJ representatives will assist persons at the tax office with the preparation of their tax returns, to include providing guidance on completing the revised Income Tax forms as well as registering persons and helping them to file utilizing the online option which is fast, secure, user-friendly and convenient.
Taxpayers who wish to make the most of these free sessions are being asked to take with them all business related documents, including their Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), bank statements, purchase invoices, receipts, sales records, utility bills, wage records and any other records that can be used to verify income and expenses.
Information support is available in the March 15 Income Tax Hub at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, where persons will be able access literature, updated forms and other information relating to Income Tax filing.
For further information call the Tax Administration Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) or visit the website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
