Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Fee Payment now available online

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has introduced the online payment of Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Fees at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. This means that motorists now have the option of paying online at their convenience instead of visiting a Tax Office to do so.

The process for the added service involves taxpayers logging into the TAJ payment portal using their client login or creating an account (where applicable). They may click on the ‘Pay Your Motor Vehicle Fees’ tab or select the ‘Motor Vehicle fees’ option under ‘Pay Other Taxes and Fees’ and choose the option for their vehicle type. A Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) and Branch Number (where applicable) and valid credit card are required to complete the transaction.

Taxpayers may then print the Statement of Payment or record the Reference Number before proceeding to any of the participating Island Traffic Authority (ITA) locations (Depots) to have the vehicle inspected and certified.  Persons may then present the Statement of Payment or Reference Number, TRN and the date the fee was purchased at the following locations:-

• Swallowfield Road
• Spanish Town Road
• Harbour View (weighing station)
• St. Thomas
• Spanish Town
• May Pen
• Mandeville
• St. Ann’s Bay
• Montego Bay

The online payment service is expected to be available for use at the Port Antonio, Port Morant, Falmouth, Lucea and Black River Depots by the end of the calendar year. However, the Savanna-la-mar Depot will not be offering the option at this time. 

Persons are encouraged to use the online facility now in place, as the the on-site payment option now available at the Swallowfield Road location is to be eventually phased out.

The introduction of this new online service underscores the Tax Administration’s continued strategic improvements of its systems, to provide value added services that are secure and convenient as outlined in TAJ’s National Compliance Plan. The new online offering also coincides with the implementation of the Island Traffic Authority’s new electronic system.
