Over 65,000 Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates Issued by TAJ Since its July Launch

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting continued success with the rollout of the Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (eMVRC), with over 65,000 issued islandwide as at August 19, 2025. The eMVRC, which came into effect on July 21, replaces the paper format and eliminates the use of a Decal/Sticker. The Tax Authority also notes that over 10% of the transactions are done online. 

Owners of private motor vehicles can complete the renewal of their Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate online within five (5) minutes using a credit card for payment and the generation of the Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate using the Certificate Generation and Distribution System (CGDS) accessed via the Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate Hub on the TAJ website at https://www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

Owners of other categories of vehicles such as public passenger, commercial, diplomatic, and all categories of newly registered vehicles are required to complete their registration in-line at a Tax Office; however, they too are issued the certificate electronically. In addition, TAJ notes that over 3,200 or 5% of motorists have opted to make use of the new registration validity period of 2 years. 

Ainsley Powell, Commissioner General of TAJ says, “I am delighted to see the vast amount of new eMVRC [Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate] transactions being done. It can be difficult to accept change, especially change of this magnitude but the numbers show that as a people we are open to improvement in revenue services. I am especially impressed in the findings of a recent survey, which indicates that 74% of the users had a seamless process. We are committed to improving our service delivery incrementally, and changing the way we do business.” 

TAJ encourages all private motorists to utilize the online option for vehicle registration renewal as a fast, easier and more convenient way to access their Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (eMVRC).
