Tax Administration Jamaica is advising that Property Tax for the 2015-2016 fiscal year is due April 1 and that persons have until the end of April to pay and avoid a 10% penalty being applied. Amounts to be paid remain the same as last year as there has been no increase in
property tax rates.
Property owners are reminded that they also have the option of paying their property tax in half-yearly instalments on April 1 and October 1 or in quarterly instalments on April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1.
Property tax can be conveniently paid online via the recently upgraded TAJ Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm using any major credit card, instead of visiting a tax office. Persons using the online option are recommended to use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome internet
browsers, which are compatible with the new web service.
In addition to the online option, property owners are reminded that property tax payments may be made at any of the 29 tax offices across the island. Persons paying by cheque may also use the electronic drop boxes located in select main tax offices.
TAJ also has available a Property Tax Query Online Service that allows persons to access information about their property tax status. Property owners are able to log on to TAJ’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, enter their valuation number, to check the status of their
property tax, going back seven (7) years. The online feature allows persons to view their accounts to see what payments were made and what amount is outstanding.
In respect of outstanding amounts for the previous year, 2014/2015, property owners are advised that the 10% penalty for late payment for amounts outstanding, which was delayed, was applied on April 1, 2015. Outstanding property taxes are to be paid using any of the
options available. Persons having a difficulty paying the outstanding amounts are advised to visit the nearest tax office to make an arrangement to pay. Persons in arrears for previous years are cautioned that action may be taken against them for the overdue amounts.
For further information persons may call the Tax Administration Jamaica Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) or visit the website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.
