Property Tax for fiscal year 2020/21 due April 1

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising all property owners that Property Tax for the 2020/21 fiscal year, which remains the same as last year, is now available online and due on April 1. However property owners are being given an extension to make payments up to June 30, 2020 before penalties may apply.

Property owners are being encouraged to pay their Property Tax online via the TAJ Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, instead of visiting a tax office to do so. Persons using the online option are advised that they should have the valuation number of the property on hand when making the payment, using a Keycard, Mastercard, or Visa credit card. Alternately, a debit card with credit card features may also be used.

Up to midday today a total 367 property tax payments were received online, representing 20% of the total 1830 property tax payments made. Whilst online property tax collections are 34% of the totals amounts collected.

Persons are reminded that Property Tax payments can be made online in full, half-yearly or quarterly instalments.

For added convenience, a Property Tax Query Online Service is also available, that allows persons to access information about their property tax status. Property owners are able to log on to TAJ’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, enter their valuation number, to check the status of their property tax, going back seven (7) years.

Although property owners are being encouraged to pay online they still have the option to do so at a Tax Office. However, persons visiting the Tax Office are reminded that the Tax Authority has implemented several measures, in keeping with the public safety guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Wellness to include:

•  Limiting the number of customers inside of the Tax Office at any one time
• Strongly encouraging social distancing while in queues on the inside and outside of the Tax Office
• Providing sanitizer/alcohol for customers to sanitize their hands before they enter the tax office.

Additionally, beginning April 1 all Tax Offices will open at 8:30am and close at 2:00pm to the
public.
