St. Thomas Tax Delinquents Warned to Avoid Enforcement Action
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) wishes to remind chronically delinquent taxpayers who have been contacted in the parish of St.
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) wishes to remind chronically delinquent taxpayers who have been contacted in the parish of St. Thomas, that there is still a window of opportunity to avoid enforcement action to recover outstanding taxes. Twenty-two (22) of the thirty-five (35) chronically delinquent taxpayers have so far failed to settle outstanding taxes, as phase two of tax recovery activities draws closer. In a previous news release, taxpayers were advised to settle outstanding amounts by Thursday November 3, 2016.
Beginning Monday November 7, 2016 TAJ’s Special Enforcement Team (SET) supported by the St. Thomas Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), will carry out the second phase targeting delinquent taxpayers who have failed to comply with the instructions of the tax authority and will face; Arrest, Garnishment, Seizure of their assets or Liens being registered on their property.
To date thirteen (13) delinquent taxpayers in the parish have either made full payments or significant portions of their outstanding taxes, with agreements in place to clear the balances thereby avoiding enforcement action.
Similar operations will be conducted in other parishes in the coming weeks as TAJ continues to carry out enforcement activities to ensure the protection of the revenue. Taxpayers are therefore encouraged to speak with the tax authority to make suitable arrangements, if they are faced with difficulties in honouring their tax obligations.
