Tax Administration Jamaica has announced that preliminary figures indicate that the $263.3B target for the 2015/16 fiscal year, was exceeded by 0.4% with $264.2B in net collections.

As outlined in its National Compliance Plan (NCP) published for the first time last year, the Administration focused its activities on Service, Education and Enforcement the three main pillars of its compliance model. These underpinned the development and design of targeted strategies to promote voluntary compliance and reduce tax evasion and avoidance.

Critical to the execution of the National Compliance Plan was the ‘Know Your Taxpayer’ concept which sought to broaden the holistic profile of taxpayers risk to improve taxpayer service and enforcement approaches. This, coupled with a renewed thrust on registering new taxpayers, encouraging on-line and on-time filing; improving payments and correct reporting contributed significantly to this achievement.

TAJ’s efforts will continue into the 2016/17 fiscal year, as the Administration seeks to maintain its collection performance, through the use of the Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS) as greater emphasis will be placed on identifying and sanctioning noncompliance.
