Tax Administration Jamaica Encourages Greater Use of Online Payment Channels for Faster, More Convenient Service

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is encouraging taxpayers across Jamaica to make greater use of its wide range of online payment channels, as part of the Administration’s ongoing drive to improve convenience, efficiency and ease of doing business for customers.

TAJ is reminding taxpayers that several tax obligations and fees can now be paid without visiting a Tax Office, using secure and convenient electronic payment options available to all categories of taxpayers — whether large, medium, small or micro businesses, as well as individual customers.

Data for Fiscal Year 2025–2026 shows that taxpayers are increasingly embracing digital payment solutions, particularly for higher-value transactions. During the period, approximately 87 per cent of the total value of revenue collected by TAJ was received through online or non-in-person payment channels.

Of particular note, Direct Funds Transfer (DFT) emerged as the leading payment channel by value, accounting for approximately J$449.5 billion, or nearly 58 per cent of all collections for the fiscal year.

Additional online payment channels such as the RAiS eServices platform, Jamaica Tax Portal (JTP), and payments through National Commercial Bank and Scotia Online bill payment options also continued to support taxpayers in meeting their obligations efficiently.

However, while the majority of revenue by value is now collected electronically, TAJ noted that a significant proportion of customers still conduct transactions in person at Tax Offices. Statistics show that approximately 68 per cent of all transactions by volume were still completed inline at Tax Offices during the fiscal year.

This trend suggests that while several large taxpayers have successfully adopted DFT and other online channels, there remains significant opportunity for more small and medium-sized businesses, as well as individual taxpayers, to benefit from the convenience of digital payment options.

TAJ is therefore encouraging customers to take advantage of the growing suite of electronic services available through its digital platforms and banking partners.

Among the most efficient payment methods available is Direct Funds Transfer (DFT), which allows taxpayers to make payments directly from their commercial bank accounts using ACH or RTGS electronic transfer services. The DFT option is particularly useful for customers seeking a safe, low cost, secure and convenient way to make primarily business-related payments without the need to physically visit a Tax Office.

Taxes and fees that may be paid using DFT include Payroll Taxes (PAYE, Education Tax, NIS, NHT and HEART), Company Income Tax, Asset Tax, GCT, Withholding Taxes, Trade and Business Licences, Stamp Duty and Transfer Tax, among several other obligations.

Customers using the DFT option are reminded that they must include the Direct Funds Transfer Number (DFTN), generated from the TAJ eServices, in the particulars/remarks section on their bank platform whenever funds are deposited to our bank account. Failure to provide the directions for the receipting of funds / the DFTN will result in non-receipting and potential compliance issues.

TAJ is emphasising that the use of online payment channels offers several important benefits, including:

  • Greater convenience and reduced travel time
  • Faster processing of payments
  • Improved efficiency and accuracy in receipting
  • Secure payment processing
  • Reduced waiting times at Tax Offices
  • Better management of business and personal resources
  • Access to online receipts and transaction records

Taxpayers may access TAJ’s online services through the TAJ website www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, as well as through participating banking channels.

TAJ remains committed to enhancing the customer experience by expanding digital service options and encouraging greater use of convenient online channels that save customers time while improving overall service delivery.

For additional information on online payment options, taxpayers may visit TAJ Online Services Information or contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 888-TAX-HELP (888-829-4357).
