TAJ Makes Adjustments to its Operations

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) wishes to advise the public that it has revised opening hours and adjusted several measures across its operations, as it acts on the recent declaration by the Honourable Prime Minister, of the phased reopening of the economy on June 1, 2020.

Effective June 1, 2020 all Tax Offices and the Stamp Office now open to the public from 8:30am to 4:00pm (Monday - Wednesday) and 8:30am to 3:00pm (Thursday – Friday). Similarly, all TAJ business offices, including the Corporate Office, will now close at 5:00pm (Mondays - Thursdays) and 4:00pm on Fridays. However, the Portmore Tax Office’s Saturday operations will continue to be suspended, until further advised. 

TAJ has resumed the collection of Police Record Fees, on the advice of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) that it has resumed the processing of Police Certificates, with the exception of the next day service, effective Monday, June 1, 2020. The fees being collected at this time are as follows:

• 21 days - $3,000
• 5 days - $6,000  

Notwithstanding the expiring of the work-from-home Order, TAJ will continue to enforce its health and safety measures in keeping with the COVID-19 Workplace Protocols published by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, as the Government continues in its efforts to prevent the spread of the corona virus. This means

• Staff in Tax Offices will continue to be rotated on shifts
• Work from home protocols remain in effect where possible
• Increased cleaning and sanitizing of high traffic surfaces at our locations daily
• Hand sanitization regimen and temperature checks for both staff and customers, at all points of entry throughout TAJ’s operations as well as the wearing of masks.
• Restricting the number of persons allowed in an office space at any one time. 

Taxpayers are advised to cooperate with the instructions of security personnel and staff at our Tax Offices to form an orderly line and maintain the recommended physical distance of at least 6 feet, as failure to do so may result in TAJ having to take additional steps to ensure the safety of waiting customers.

Tax Administration Jamaica is reminding customers that the Motor Vehicle Certificate of Fitness Fee can only be paid online, as in-branch suspension of this service at major offices remain in effect. Additionally, persons are encouraged to use the services that can be accessed online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, providing COVID safe options in an effort to mitigate and minimize their risks. These online service options include all business related tax filing and payments, Property Tax, Traffic Tickets and TCC application.
