TAJ Marks One Year of eMVRC with over 782,000 Online and Inline Transactions at Tax Offices Island-wide

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is celebrating the anniversary of the Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (eMVRC), marking one year since the service was introduced on July 21, 2025. The milestone reflects growing public confidence in TAJ's digital services, with 107,744 or (14%) opting to renew their Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate online and instantly receive their electronic certificate as at July 20, 2026.

The eMVRC replaced the traditional paper certificate and eliminated the need for the motor vehicle registration decal or sticker, making the process faster, simpler and more environmentally friendly. 

Private motor vehicle owners can renew their registration online by making payment with a credit card and generating their certificate through the Certificate Generation and Distribution System (CGDS), accessible via the eMVRC Hub on TAJ's website.

Owners of public passenger, commercial, diplomatic and newly registered vehicles are still required to complete their transactions in person at a Tax Office. Also, first time applicants are required to visit the Tax Offices to complete their new registrations. 

TAJ is reminding customers visiting the Tax Offices that they should:

• Be ready to identify the motor vehicle being licenced
• Have access to the emails containing the required renewal information to provide to the Collections Officers
• Travel with the previous receipt when returning for a renewal

While TAJ can assist customers who provide the vehicle's registration plate number, this approach may lead to challenges and a longer processing time. In some cases, customers who own multiple vehicles may inadvertently provide the registration plate for the wrong vehicle, resulting in the incorrect vehicle being licensed.

Since the introduction of the service, customers have consistently praised the convenience of the online platform.

One satisfied motorist on social media shared: "Trust me, this is very convenient. I licensed my vehicle and generated the certificate in under 10 minutes from the comfort of my bed."

Commissioner General of TAJ, Ainsley Powell, welcomed the increasing use of the service and encouraged more motorists to take advantage of the organisation's expanding suite of digital services.

"The continued growth in the use of the Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate demonstrates that more taxpayers are embracing the convenience, speed and security of our digital services. Eligible owners of private motor vehicles can now complete their registration renewals online in just a few minutes without the need to visit a Tax Office."

Mr. Powell added that TAJ continues to enhance the customer experience through ongoing improvements to the service.

"Once a registration is successfully completed, motorists receive an email confirming that their electronic registration certificate has been issued. We have also enhanced the system to automatically send renewal reminder notifications by email, making it even easier for customers to remain compliant and renew on time."

TAJ continues to encourage eligible owners of private motor vehicles to renew their registration online as a fast, secure and convenient alternative to visiting a Tax Office.
