TAJ Reminds Taxpayers That Personal and Company Cheques No Longer Accepted Effective September 1

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding members of the public that, effective September 1, 2025; it will discontinue the acceptance of personal, business and company cheques.

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding members of the public that, effective September 1, 2025; it will discontinue the acceptance of personal, business and company cheques. This means that as of this date, this payment instrument/method can no longer be used for payment of public monies and tax related transactions except in the following cases:

  • Where a valid cheque is issued by another Ministry, Department, or Public Body;
    or
  • Where a valid Manager’s Cheque is issued by a local licensed Commercial Bank regulated by the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ)

While non-cheque payments will still be accepted inline, the Tax Authority encourages taxpayers and other stakeholders to utilize the online payment options available. Online Payments can be made via any of the convenient options:

  • www.jamaicatax.gov.jm using a valid debit or credit card
  • Direct Funds Transfer (DFT)
  • NCB Online Banking
  • Scotia Online Banking and Mobile App
