TAJ’s Property Tax Collection Improvement Project

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) has started its enforcement initiatives to improve Property Tax Collection in the Parish of St. Ann through a special project known as the “Property Tax Collection Improvement Project”.  The focus will be on properties which carry the highest property tax values in Ocho Rios, Salem, Runaway Bay, Discovery Bay, St. Ann’s Bay, Mammee Bay, Drax Hall, Brown’s Town, Alexander, Bamboo, Moneague, Golden Grove and Claremont. 

The project which started on Monday November 26, will conclude on December 7, 2018 and is expected to achieve a substantial reduction in the Property Tax arrears.

The following enforcement activities will be undertaken during the period of the project:

1.         Reminders will be issued for all locations and their environs.

2.         Trade Licence assessment will be done for all locations.

3.         Summonses will be served for all locations at which final notices were served prior to this project.

4.         All other necessary compliance actions.
 

Property Owners can conveniently pay their property tax online via the Jamaica Tax Portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, using a credit card, instead of visiting a tax office.

In addition to the online option, property owners are reminded that property tax payments can be made at any tax office across the island. Persons paying by cheque can avail themselves of the electronic drop box facility located in major tax offices.

For property owners who are not sure how much property tax is owed, they are being reminded of the Property Tax Query Online service. The service allows property owners to log on to TAJ’s website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and enter their valuation number, to check the status of their property tax, going back seven (7) years.
