Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is advising the public that effective September 1, 2025, the Authority will no longer accept cheques as a method of payment for taxes and other public monies, except in the following instances:
- Where a valid cheque is issued by another Ministry, Department, or Public Body; or
- Where a valid Manager’s Cheque is issued by a local licensed Commercial Bank regulated by the Bank of Jamaica.
This policy shift is part of TAJ’s continued efforts to modernize its operations, strengthen risk management, and enhance the efficiency, security and reliability of its payment processes.
With this new policy, customers are being encouraged to use other available payment options, such as, logging on to the tax portal at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm and use a valid debit or credit card, using the Direct Funds Transfer (DFT), NCB Online Banking or Scotia Online.
At TAJ, we understand that this change may raise questions, however, we are here to help make the transition as smooth as possible. For assistance with any of the alternative payment methods, taxpayers can:
- Call the Customer Care Centre toll-free at 888-TAX-HELP (888-829-4357);
- Send an email to taxhelp@taj.gov.jm;
For further information, visit our website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. At Tax Administration Jamaica we continue to change the way we do business, by working together to serve you even better.
