TAJ to roll-out TRN and TCC Online Services December 7

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is set to introduce online application for the processing of Taxpayer Registration Numbers (TRN) and Tax Compliance Certificates (TCC), via its website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm .

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is set to introduce online application for the processing of Taxpayer Registration Numbers (TRN) and Tax Compliance Certificates (TCC), via its website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. This will be facilitated with the roll-out of phase 2 of its Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS) on December 7, 2015.

At this time, persons will be able to begin the TRN application process online. Through the upgraded web service, applicants will have the convenience of completing and submitting their TRN e-Application and uploading the supporting documents, thereby fast tracking the
application processing. Applicants will however, still be required to visit a tax office to present their documents, such as a valid identification, for authentication and to collect their TRN.

As it relates to a tax compliance certification, taxpayers will also be able to submit their applications online. Once processed, a Tax Compliance Letter (TCL) will be generated from RAiS advising of the taxpayer’s compliance status. The taxpayer and/or the person utilising the TCC will be able to access and validate the details of the TCL or to verify its authenticity.

Taxpayers are advised that all tax compliance certification will be processed on their main TRN. Therefore all branches operating under a TRN must be compliant for a Tax Compliance Letter to be issued. It should be noted also that these Tax Compliance Letters will be printed
on regular paper.

TAJ is reminding persons that to facilitate the upgrade of its system, several services will be impacted during the period December 2 - 6 as the tax authority makes the necessary preparations for the smooth implementation on December 7. During this transition period,
services relating to TRN, TCC, Zero-rating and access to TAJ’s web services will either be suspended or limited. Additionally, the Portmore Tax Office will be closed for business on Saturday, December 5. Taxpayers are therefore being encouraged to conduct related
transactions before or after the transition period, as TAJ puts the necessary systems in place to improve service efficiency.

In addition to the introduction of online applications for TRN and TCC, improved web services related to Income, Education, Minimum Business, Asset and Payroll Taxes will also be introduced on December 7.

These changes are all geared towards improving the taxpayer experience and the efficiency and effectiveness of customer service delivery.
