As the end of the fiscal year approaches, TAJ is reminding Taxpayers who did not meet the March 15 income tax filing deadline that they are still required to file their final return for 2015 and a declaration of estimated income and tax payable for 2016 and make the necessary payments.

TAJ has begun carrying out monitoring activities to determine and validate the level of non-compliance and partial compliance in relation to the taxpayers’ filing and payment obligations. The returns filed are also being examined for their correctness. Using the new Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS), TAJ has identified over thirty-eight thousand (38,000) missing final and estimated returns and automatically generated Notices of Failure to File. Taxpayers who have a TAJ web account, would have noticed that their notice has been sent to their inbox. A $5,000 penalty for late filing will automatically be applied to accounts for each and every month that the return is outstanding.

In addition to those Taxpayers who missed the March 15 income tax filing and payment deadline, TAJ is also urging those taxpayers who filed but did not make a payment to either pay in full or make payment arrangements before March 31, 2016. A similar appeal is made for taxpayers to settle outstanding amounts for all tax types, such as Asset, GCT, Payroll and Property Tax, which are now due and payable.

In an effort to collect the outstanding amounts, TAJ staff is currently contacting taxpayers to remind them of their obligations and to advise them of their options.

Starting April 1, 2016, court action and other compliance activities will be carried out against taxpayers who have been identified, through RAiS, as having failed to file their income tax returns.

Persons may contact the TAJ Customer Care Centre at 1-888-Tax-Help (1-888-829-4357) toll-free for further information or assistance.
