Tax Administration Jamaica launches Tax Week 2017
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will launch Tax Week 2017 with a schedule of activities beginning on Saturday October 28 and ending on Friday November 3, 2017.
Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) will launch Tax Week 2017 with a schedule of activities beginning on Saturday October 28 and ending on Friday November 3, 2017.
The theme for Tax Week, “Making a Difference Through Service” speaks to the importance of service in Tax Administration Jamaica and its drive to change the service culture for both internal and external customers, by celebrating its first milestone as a Semi-Autonomous Revenue Authority (SARA).
The schedule of activities will commence with Church Services in Mandeville on October 28 and in Kingston and Montego Bay on October 29. In Kingston the Church Service will be held at the Swallowfield Chapel beginning at 10:45 am and at the Faith Temple Assembly of God, and the Northern Caribbean University Chapel in Montego Bay and Mandeville respectively with both services beginning at 11.00 am.
Tax Administration Jamaica is inviting all stakeholders to join TAJ in worship as it launches Tax Week 2017.
Other activities for the week will include the TAJ “Let’s Talk Tax” Discussion Forum which is to be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Wednesday November 1 under the theme “Tax Compliance in Jamaica”. The Forum which is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm will feature The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Tax Administration Jamaica and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ), a Tax Spot to provide information on tax matters and an Outside Broadcast on Power 106 FM which will highlight the first ever “Let’s Talk Tax” Discussion forum. A six (6) member panel will lead the discussions which include Professors Trevor Munroe and Rosalea Hamilton, Executive Director, National Integrity Action and Project Director, Fi Wi Jamaica, Allison Peart, Chairman of Taxation Committee, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica, Dennis Chung, Chief Executive Officer, Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, Hugh Johnson, President, Small Business Association of Jamaica and Ralston Hyman, Economist and Radio Talk Show Host.
The week will continue on Thursday November 2 with a Corporate Social Responsibility activity, when TAJ will visit four children’s homes in Mandeville, Montego Bay, Kingston & St. Andrew. TAJ team members will visit these selected homes and present care packages as well as interact, where possible, with children and caregivers.
The week will conclude on Friday November 3 with a host of social activities to include Customer & Staff Appreciation Day, as well as “Tax on the Move”– Compliance Drive. “Tax On the Move” is an initiative to be driven by TAJ’s Operations Division where tax officers will bring tax services and information to the public in town centres or at their place of business by handing out flyers. This activity is designed to underscore Tax Administration’s continued compliance strategies, to provide value added services.
