Tax Administration Jamaica Public Advisory on COVID-19

As we continue to closely monitor the global development of the COVID-19, which has been declared a pandemic and with Jamaica’s recorded cases increasing, please be assured that the safety of our staff, customers and other stakeholders is our main concern.

We are making every effort to continue to provide service, while safeguarding the well-being and safety of all. In this regard, we are doing the following in keeping with recommended guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Wellness:

1. Increasing frequency of cleaning and sterilizing of high traffic surfaces at our locations daily.
2. Providing team members with hand sanitizers/alcohol and disinfecting equipment to be used throughout the course of each day.
3. Providing access to hand sanitizers/alcohol at our customer entry points.

We encourage customers to use our online tax platform at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm, which offers a wide range of filing, payment and other services from anywhere, at any time. This includes filing and paying business related taxes, querying and paying property tax, certificate of fitness fee and traffic ticket.

For customers who need to visit our Tax Offices, please be mindful that we will be operating with a reduced number of staff.  Some of our team members would have had to be permitted to accommodate their children’s stay at home due to the closure of schools, as well as others who may reside in the community quarantined by the Government or may be self-quarantined due to recent overseas travel or possible trace contact with affected persons.

Additionally, taking into consideration recommendations from the Ministry of Health and Wellness to create social distancing and discourage mass gatherings, these additional measures will be taken beginning Monday, March 16 at all our Tax Offices:

1. Restricting the number of customers who will be allowed into our offices at one time, to avoid crowding.
2. Discontinuing the services at our eFiling Centre and eFiling stations.
3. Discontinuing the same day service for the renewal of Driver’s Licence, which involves the taking of photographs.  Please note that persons will be able to drive with their expired licence and the receipt as proof of payment for the renewal, as now obtains in our smaller offices.
4. Discontinuing the collection of fees for Police Records, as the Jamaica Constabulary Force has signalled that they will not be processing new Police Records.
5. Cancelling all Special Taxpayer Education Programme (STAP) sessions, workshops, presentations and speaking engagements.

We are also continuing to effect plans that will allow some persons to work from home, as well as having teams rotate to work in office.

We will continue to monitor information from the Ministry of Health and Wellness and other official sources and will keep you updated on our operations.
