Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) through its Special Taxpayer Assistance Programme (STAP) continues to assist hundreds of small business and self-employed persons, make preparations to fulfil their tax obligations in two weeks when they are expected to file their Final Income Tax Returns due March 15. Small business persons are able to avail themselves of free assistance to prepare their Annual Income Tax Returns for the year 2015 and to declare their Estimated Income and Tax Payable for the year 2016.

The STAP sessions, which run until March 31, will focus on registering and assisting persons to file their Income Tax as well as their Employers Annual Return (S02) online using the new Revenue Administration Information System (RAiS), which now allows more options and added convenience to taxpayers. In addition to filing tax returns online on the new tax platform, it may also be used to pay using automated direct banking, create a payment plan, view filing and payment history, generate statement of accounts, and apply for a TCC
electronically, instead of having to visit a tax office to do those transactions.

Business persons are reminded to take their business related documents such as Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN), bank statements, purchase invoices, expense receipts, sales records, utility bills and any other records that can be used to verify their income and expenses to get assistance with preparing and filing returns. The tax authority continues to partner with a few business associations that cater to small businesses, such as the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Alliance, to assist their clients and members with assistance in filing their tax returns.
