Traffic Ticket Amnesty Ends Saturday January 13

With a little over 24 hours to go before the second Traffic Ticket amnesty ends on Saturday, January 13, Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is encouraging motorists who have not yet availed themselves of the amnesty to do so. The tax authority has observed a significant increase in walk-in traffic at Tax Offices islandwide as well as online payments, as the momentum builds for what is expected to be a rush in the last hours of the amnesty.

So far $150m has been collected since the start the Traffic Ticket Amnesty on November 27, 2017.

To this end, several measures have been put in place, as hundreds of motorists are expected to visit Tax Offices island wide between today Friday, January 12 and Saturday, January 13. This Saturday several tax offices will operate between the hours of 10 am – 2pm; Santa Cruz, Kingston, Constant Spring, Montego Bay, Spanish Town, May Pen, Mandeville, Savanna-la-mar, St. Ann’s Bay and Port Maria.  The Portmore Tax Office will continue its regular Saturday opening time (10am-4pm)

The tax authority has increased security at all its collection points with additional support from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) for crowd control and traffic management. TAJ’s personnel will also be on hand at Tax Offices to guide taxpayers to the appropriate service areas, as well as to provide information to help with the smooth flow of customer traffic throughout the day.

Employers filing their monthly Statutory Deductions (S01) for the month of December, will also be able to avail themselves of the Saturday convenience ahead of the January 15 due date to benefit from the Employment Tax Credit.

For even greater convenience motorists may use TAJ’s online option, which allows them to pay their traffic ticket up to 11:59 pm on January 13, without facing any penalty. Persons may use a valid credit card to make payment online at www.jamaicatax.gov.jmfrom the convenience of their home, office or mobile device. This can also be done using the eSpot facility available in major Tax Offices, with on spot support.

Motorists are reminded that they must have the traffic ticket or traffic ticket number to make a payment inline or online. Persons are advised to contact the JCF special Traffic Ticket Call Centre at 948-0411 for information on outstanding tickets.

Once the Traffic Ticket Amnesty ends on January 13, the system used in the collection of traffic ticket fines will revert to its original state, which will result in all tickets not paid within twenty-one (21) days as prescribed by law, not being payable at any Tax Office or through the online system and the individual must instead attend court.
