Over 4,000 New Electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates (eMVRC) issued island-wide during the first 2 Days

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reporting that over 4,000 new electronic Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates (eMVRC) were successfully processed island wide and online and issued over the first two days since the Monday, July 21, 2025 launch of the new system. This means that over 4,000 motorists have been issued their Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates electronically, officially putting an end to the issuing of paper Certificates and Decals/Stickers. 

In addition to Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates now being issued electronically, under the Road Traffic Amendment Act 2025, a validity period of two years is now in effect adding to the previous options of 6 months and 1 year. As a result, the owner of a private motor vehicle of 1,500cc rating can now choose to licence their vehicle at a cost of either $6,300 for 6 months, $12,600 for one year/12 months or $25,200 for two years/24 months.

Customers are reminded that they must have a valid email or access to one, to renew or register their motor vehicle, whether it’s being done inline at a Tax Office or a TAJ log-in account that uses an email for online transactions via the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm.

Persons doing their motor vehicle registration at a Tax Office, must provide the Collections Officer/Cashier with the email address as part of the process. TAJ has dedicated support teams available on the ground at the various Tax Offices to assist with ensuring a smooth registration process as we continue this new transitional phase. At the end of the in-office process customers will get an official receipt of the transaction. The instructions to access the electronic certificate will be emailed. 

As previously existed, owners of private motor vehicles (white plates) still have the option to renew their registration online via the TAJ website. However, they now have the added benefit of no longer having to visit a select Tax Office to collect their registration documents but will instead receive a notification email on how to access the electronically issued Motor Vehicle Registration Certificate (eMVRC).

All customers will be able to use the notification emailed to them to access their eMVRCs via the Certificate Generation and Delivery Service (CGDS) Portal at www.cgds.gov.jm or via the TAJ website at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm. It should also be noted that all motor vehicle information is accessible to the relevant authorities, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), insurance companies and financial institutions for the validation of the document. 

The Tax Authority, in collaboration with the Island Traffic Authority (ITA), which also introduced electronic issuing of Fitness Certificates, will be hosting a podcast on Thursday, July 24, to address questions about the rollout of the eMVRC and eFitness on how motorists can navigate the changes. Representatives will provide detailed guidance and responses to questions posed by members of the public.
